Managing similar-looking photos in Google Photos can often be overwhelming. To alleviate this issue, Google introduced a feature called Stacks, which groups similar images into a single folder on the Google Photos home screen. Recently, reports indicate that users can now manually add photos to these Stacks, but this functionality is currently available only for iOS users.
Stacks has been a part of Google Photos for a while now. For instance, if you’ve taken multiple pictures of a flower to capture the ideal shot, all those images are combined into one icon on your home screen. By tapping the Stack, you can expand it to view and manage the photos within.
However, functionality was somewhat limited; the only action available was the ability to remove photos from a Stack. The newly introduced manual addition feature allows users to curate their Stacks more effectively. First observed in Google Photos version 7.29 on Apple devices, this feature lets you select photos and simply tap a new “Stack photos” button that appears at the bottom of the screen.
This ease of use opens up possibilities for organizing your pictures not just by similarity, but also by specific themes such as events, vacations, or projects. As of now, it remains uncertain when this feature will be available to Android users. Nevertheless, the capability to create personalized photo Stacks presents a valuable tool for organizing images in a way that best fits individual needs.
This flexibility significantly enhances the user experience, allowing for better organization of cherished memories and important moments.
