Alienware has unveiled its new 240Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor, priced at $799.99. The announcement came during CES 2025, although the exact launch date was not specified at the time. Fast forward to this week, and US consumers can now purchase the monitor directly from Dell. One significant aspect of this release is the price point, especially considering that QD-OLED monitors and TVs tend to be quite costly.

This latest model offers a more affordable option while incorporating various upgrades and a fresh design. The Alienware 240Hz QD-OLED monitor marks a substantial price reduction compared to its predecessor. The previous model, the AW3423DW QD-OLED, launched in 2023 for a hefty $1,299.99, making it one of the more expensive gaming monitors at the time. The new model’s price, set at $799.99, reflects a remarkable $500 decrease, signaling potential affordability in QD-OLED technology.

This development helps illustrate that manufacturing costs for monitor panels may be declining. In addition to the price reduction, the new monitor features a revamped design. Notably, it has a more understated aesthetic compared to its predecessor, which featured an A-shaped base. The updated version boasts a compact, rounded rectangular base, minimizing its footprint on a desk and allowing for additional space for gaming accessories.

While high-end QD-OLED TVs, such as Sony’s new Bravia II models, still remain pricey, the gaming monitor market may be shifting. Not all QD-OLED monitors will adopt this lower price point; for instance, MSI’s MPG 321URXW QD-OLED monitor continues to retail for $999.99. Although Alienware’s entry into the sub-$800 market may not definitively indicate a trend toward cheaper QD-OLED monitors, it does suggest potential competitiveness in pricing as the technology evolves.
