YouTube has recently unveiled a series of features for its Shorts platform that are reminiscent of TikTok, aimed at enhancing the experience for creators of short-form videos. The new additions include an upgraded video editing tool, automated synchronization of video with music, image and AI stickers, as well as new templates for Shorts. These functionalities are set to be rolled out later this spring, coinciding with the impending TikTok ban deadline in the U.S. on April 5th.
One of the standout features is the improved video editing tool, designed to provide creators with greater control over their content. This tool allows users to make precise adjustments, including zooming and snapping, to ensure each short video meets their vision. Creators will also have the ability to rearrange or eliminate clips, add music or timed text, and preview their Shorts before posting.
In a notable addition, users can import photos from their phone’s gallery to incorporate into Shorts templates, which will also feature new effects. When utilizing a template, credit will be automatically given to the original creator, promoting a sense of community among users. Additionally, YouTube is introducing a smart audio alignment tool that will automatically sync videos with the chosen music’s rhythm, alleviating the challenge of manual synchronization.
Users will have access to image stickers from their device’s gallery, and they can also create AI stickers using simple text prompts. These exciting new features are strategically timed as YouTube appears to be positioning itself to attract creators seeking alternatives to TikTok, especially in light of potential regulatory changes in the U.S.
