The Chromecast with Google TV remains one of Google’s standout products, despite the company discontinuing its production last year. However, they have committed to providing ongoing software support, including not only security updates but also the introduction of new features. One of the most notable updates is the expanded rollout of the Google Home panel, which enhances the Chromecast’s functionality and integrates it with other Google TV devices. Currently, Google has not released a significant update for the device, particularly the anticipated Android 14 TV.
While the rollout began a few weeks ago, it was interrupted due to serious issues that prompted Google to pause the update temporarily. The company is in the process of refining the update to resolve any remaining problems before it resumes. Meanwhile, the Chromecast with Google TV is evolving into a central hub for managing smart home devices. According to reports, more users are starting to receive access to the Google Home panel, which appears as a new shortcut in the notification panel.
While some Chromecast with Google TV users experienced it during a Public Preview phase, many found the feature temporarily unavailable. Now, the feature seems ready for a broader release, benefiting not only Chromecast users but also owners of various Google TV smart TVs from brands like Hisense. Once the Google Home panel becomes available, users will be prompted to set it up, allowing them to receive notifications from devices like Nest Doorbells and access live feeds from connected cameras. This feature enhances the Chromecast experience, enabling control over smart home products directly from the TV.
Initially, it will be accessible to users with a “Home” set up through the Google Home app, while devices with child profiles will not receive the update. For those who haven’t received the feature yet, it’s advisable to remain patient, as it is expected to roll out soon.
