Qualcomm has announced a product launch event in China scheduled for April 2nd, where it is expected to unveil its latest chip. Although there has been no official confirmation regarding the chip’s name, reports suggest that the company could introduce either the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or the Snapdragon 8s Elite. This new chip will serve as the successor to last year’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. In the lead-up to the event, several details about the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 have emerged.

Speculation points to the new high-end chip achieving an impressive AnTuTu score exceeding 2 million. Qualcomm is set to utilize TSMC’s 4nm fabrication technology for manufacturing the System on Chip (SoC). Sources indicate it will feature the Adreno 825 GPU, which may be a slightly reduced version of the Adreno 830 found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, identified by the model number SM8735, is rumored to utilize a 1+3+2+2 core architecture as opposed to the 2+6 custom Oryon cores seen in the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

This chip is expected to include one Cortex-X4 Prime core running at 3.21GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 3.01GHz, and two additional Cortex-A720 performance cores operating at 2.8GHz, alongside two Cortex-A720 efficiency cores at 2.02GHz. Additionally, it is anticipated to come with 6MB of system-level cache and 8MB of L3 cache, enhancing its multitasking capabilities. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or 8s Elite will be placed between Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite and 7 series chips in the market. It is expected to compete with MediaTek’s forthcoming Dimensity 9400e processor.

The first smartphones equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 are poised to be released as early as mid-April, with the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro rumored to be the first. Other models like the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro, and OPPO K13 Pro are also expected to feature the new chip. Stay tuned for updates as the launch date approaches.
