After months of anticipation, Google has begun to roll out the Loss of Pulse Detection feature for its smartwatches. Following FDA certification, this feature is now being distributed, and users can expect to see it within the coming weeks. Smartwatches serve a purpose beyond simple notifications and style; they often come equipped with a variety of health and wellness features.

This makes them an essential tool for early detection of potential health issues. One eagerly awaited feature is Loss of Pulse Detection, which is exclusive to the Pixel Watch 3. This function aims to detect when a person’s heart has stopped and can automatically contact emergency services for immediate assistance.

The introduction of this feature was delayed as Google sought approval from the U.S. FDA, which is necessary for any health-related technology targeting U.S. consumers. For instance, the OnePlus Watch 3 possesses an ECG function for heart monitoring, but it cannot be used in the U.S. due to FDA application denial. With the rollout of Loss of Pulse Detection underway, users may not receive the update immediately.

Google has begun distributing the feature, so some patience will be required in the coming weeks as it reaches all users. Once available, it’s crucial for users to enable the feature through the Pixel Watch app on their smartphones. Navigate to the Safety & Emergency section of the settings, locate the Loss of Pulse Detection option, and enable it there.

Keep in mind that this continuous heart monitoring may impact battery life. However, the potential benefits to your health could far outweigh any drawbacks.
