Google has recently introduced the “Discover sources” feature in NotebookLM, enhancing its AI-powered notebook and research tool with Gemini. This feature enables users to search for relevant sources directly within the app, offering a selection of up to ten pertinent references alongside annotated results. These sources can be easily imported into ongoing projects. NotebookLM has been consistently updated, with the latest enhancement allowing users to create mind maps.

Now, the addition of the “Discover sources” feature simplifies the process of finding information. Accessible in the “Sources” pane next to the “Add” button, this feature saves users valuable time by enabling web searches directly within the application. By clicking the “Discover sources” button, users can enter a description of their topic of interest. NotebookLM’s Gemini-powered search engine then works to aggregate potential sources related to the query.

The AI analyzes the gathered sources and selects the most relevant ones based on the specified topic. As a result, users are presented with a curated list of up to ten recommended sources, each accompanied by a brief annotated summary detailing its relevance. Importing these sources is a simple one-click process, and users can also choose individual sources to integrate with other NotebookLM features like Briefing Docs, FAQs, and Audio Overviews. This new functionality not only promotes streamlined workflows but also ensures that users can easily incorporate fresh sources into their existing projects.

Whether for citation purposes, note-taking, or future reference, these sources will be readily available. Additionally, for new users of NotebookLM, Google plans to introduce the “I’m Feeling Curious” button, located beneath the text field, which allows users to generate sources on random topics, further enhancing the exploration of knowledge.
