Midjourney, a pioneer in AI image generation, has launched its latest model, V7, almost a year after introducing V6. The new model features “Draft Mode,” a significant addition designed to improve user experience, and is available in both Turbo and Relax variants. Users can currently explore this model in its alpha phase.

The V7 model stands out for its default personalization settings, which allow users to receive tailored outputs based on individual preferences. This release follows closely on the heels of advancements from other AI platforms, including OpenAI’s latest image generator incorporated into ChatGPT. One of the flagship features of Midjourney’s V7 is the “Draft Mode,” which can create images at a speed ten times faster and at half the cost compared to the standard mode.

Although draft images are of lower quality, users have the option to enhance and re-render them easily. This mode also provides the ability to submit multiple prompts for refined outputs and incorporates voice input, promoting a conversational and intuitive imaging process. Users simply activate draft mode and press the microphone button to dictate their ideas.

Additionally, V7 comes in two variants: Turbo and Relax. The Turbo version has a cost that is double that of normal speeds on the V6 model, indicating that further optimization is still underway for the standard mode. In the meantime, some features such as upscaling and editing will continue to utilize the capabilities of the previous V6 model.

The V7 model is recognized for its improved adherence to text prompts and offers superior image quality with refined textures. Personalization requires users to rate a series of images to create a profile that shapes future outputs based on their tastes. Midjourney is allowing limited users to test this alpha version, with plans to unveil new features bi-weekly over the next two months.
