Google has taken its time to develop features for Project Astra, a significant update related to Gemini in recent years. This initiative introduces multimodal capabilities, such as real-time video and screen sharing, to Gemini Live. Earlier this month, Google began the rollout of Project Astra’s camera and screen sharing functionalities for a select group of Gemini Live users.

Now, the company has announced a broader rollout of these features. Initially, the real-time camera and screen sharing features were made available to some users of Xiaomi phones. The expansion now includes a wider group of Gemini Live users globally.

In a recent post on X, Google acknowledged the enthusiasm surrounding these features, stating, “We see (and share) the excitement around this feature and are working hard to make it available to more people! The ability to share your camera or screen in Gemini Live conversations will continue to roll out, and we’ll provide updates on this page as the feature expands.”

Interestingly, it appears that the rollout is not limited to specific devices like Pixel or Samsung Galaxy models. Instead, it seems that all Gemini Advanced users with compatible Android devices are receiving the new functionalities.

With these new features, Gemini Live can now process real-time camera and screen feeds for Google One AI Premium subscribers. Users can share their phone’s camera feed or screen and ask questions about the content displayed. This means that by sharing their device’s screen, users can inquire about what they are currently viewing.

Similarly, the real-time camera sharing allows Gemini Live to answer questions based on its view through the camera. It’s noteworthy that Google introduced these new Gemini Live features nearly a year after showcasing Project Astra. Users are encouraged to share their experiences with the new functionalities in the comments.
