After multiple reports from Pixel 7a users regarding battery swelling on platforms like Reddit and Pixel forums, Google has introduced an extended repair program for the device. This initiative aims to provide free repairs for units affected by “unexpected battery swelling.”

Google has acknowledged that specific Pixel 7a models may encounter battery swelling issues. Under the new program, users may qualify for free battery replacements or other forms of compensation, which may vary by country and warranty status.

While not every Pixel 7a is at risk, the program focuses on symptoms such as visible swelling, bulging of the phone’s cover, rapid battery drainage, and charging failures. To check if you qualify for a free battery replacement, you should visit Google’s support page.

You’ll need to verify your Gmail ID associated with your phone and enter the IMEI code of your device. Google may ask additional questions to assess the battery issue.

It’s important to note that your phone will undergo a physical inspection as part of the eligibility check. However, devices showing signs of liquid damage, exposure to sharp objects, or other physical damage won’t qualify for the extended repair offer.

The extended repair program is available in several countries, including the USA, India, Canada, the UK, Germany, Japan, and Singapore. For those in regions without a mail-in option, users can receive alternative compensation: $200 (or its equivalent) or a $300 discount on a new Pixel device for out-of-warranty phones.

If the device is still under warranty, the compensation can be as high as $456.
