Google has announced the rollout of new features for its Gemini Live AI assistant, introducing real-time camera and screen-sharing capabilities. This update allows users to engage with their surroundings by simply pointing their phone’s camera at objects and asking questions. Currently, these features are available for select flagship Android phones, particularly the Google Pixel 9 series and Samsung Galaxy S25 series.
To utilize these new capabilities, users will notice a new camcorder button in the Gemini Live interface. By tapping this button, they can enter a live video mode. This allows the assistant to see what the camera is observing in real time, which enhances interactivity.
Additionally, a *“share screen with Live”* button has been added to the Gemini overlay, enabling users to show what is on their phone’s screen to the assistant for further inquiries. A new notification, resembling a call reminder, appears in the status bar to indicate active interactions with the AI. This notification includes a live counter and opens a full-screen experience when clicked.
Users will also experience a subtle vibration just before receiving responses from Gemini Live, enhancing the engagement experience. To access these new features, users may need to refresh the Gemini app or the main Google app. This can be done by navigating to Settings, selecting Apps, and force-stopping either the Gemini or Google app.
After a brief pause, relaunching the app should reveal the new functionalities. Google has shared several practical use cases for these features. Users can organize spaces, brainstorm ideas, and even receive personalized shopping advice by capturing images or sharing screens with Gemini Live.
The features are gradually being made available to users of eligible devices with a Gemini Advanced subscription, improving everyday interactions with technology.
