The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is generating buzz, but early indications suggest it won’t feature dual 200MP cameras on the back. The primary reason for this limitation lies in the system-on-chip (SoC) capabilities. Current technology does not support a dual 200MP camera configuration.
While testing appears to have been done on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, it is unclear what advancements the next generation of chips will bring. Nonetheless, consumers shouldn’t expect Samsung’s next flagship to sport two 200MP cameras. Even though the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s release is still about ten months away, rumors are beginning to surface.
Recent leaks have primarily focused on its camera capabilities, with a new revelation coming from PandaFlashPro, a known tipster. According to this source, the lack of dual 200MP cameras is directly linked to the SoC limitations. If it were feasible, Samsung would likely incorporate two such sensors.
Currently, it’s suggested that testing was conducted with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip rather than the anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chip that is expected to power the Galaxy S26 Ultra. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite does support a single camera of up to 320MP, it’s improbable that the next generation will allow for two 200MP sensors. Therefore, it remains uncertain what advancements Qualcomm might surprise us with in the future.
As various companies are beginning to adopt 200MP camera sensors, Samsung has already integrated one in its main camera. Other brands, like Vivo, are using high-resolution sensors for features like periscope telephoto cameras. Despite the potential applications, it seems the Galaxy S26 Ultra won’t take advantage of two 200MP cameras, a missed opportunity for enhancements in this competitive flagship market.
